What an Acorn Strainer Does It is a domed stainless mesh screen that threads onto the pick up fitting inside the solution tank, at the pump's suction inlet. Everything the pump draws passes through it first. Its job is to stop grit, scale and undissolved chemical reaching the pump and blocking the jets.
